The Grand Lodges of The Mediterranean

History

The Grand Lodges of the Mediterranean (GLM) were officially founded on April 6, 2024, in Malta, during the founding assembly that brought together three obediences deeply rooted in Masonic tradition:

  • The Grand Lodge of Jerusalem of Malta (GLJM), established in 1966 in St. Paul’s Bay, Malta.
  • The Grand Lodge of Free Masons (GLML), founded in 2015 in France.
  • The Grand Lodge of Europe and the Mediterranean (GLEM), created in 2020 in France.

The Mediterranean, for centuries a crossroads of civilizations, faiths, and cultures, was chosen as the symbolic heart of this alliance. Malta, located at the very center of the Mediterranean, reflects this heritage and became the natural birthplace of the GLM.

From the beginning, the GLM set out to create a federation of regular Masonic obediences, united by shared values of fraternity, freedom, tolerance, and respect for cultural diversity.

The statutes, signed in Rome on September 14, 2024, officially sealed this confederation, confirming its principles of Masonic regularity, political and religious neutrality, and commitment to humanist ideals.

Since its foundation, the GLM has welcomed new member lodges, developed a multilingual communication platform, and launched educational and cultural projects—such as MEDUNIEX, an Erasmus-inspired exchange program—to promote fraternity and knowledge across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Today, the Grand Lodges of the Mediterranean continue to grow, honoring their mission of building a united Masonic community across the Mediterranean basin and beyond.

The Constitutions of the Free-Masons (1723)

Published in London in 1723, this foundational text compiles the history, regulations, and principles of the most ancient and honorable fraternity of Freemasons. Written for the use of lodges, it is regarded as the founding document of modern Freemasonry, outlining rules, offices, and codes of conduct for members. Printed by William Hunter, this book is a significant historical record of the Masonic organization and its influence on society.Published in London in 1723, this foundational text compiles the history, regulations, and principles of the most ancient and honorable fraternity of Freemasons.
